Dajinshan Temple

A Jiangxi chapter centred on a Buddhist nuns’ monastery and the place of women in religious life.

China Beyond Travel · Updated

Dajinshan Temple brings another perspective to a book-inspired exploration: the traditions and learning of a community of Buddhist nuns.

This temple appears in Bill Porter’s Zen Baggage. Our suggested visit is independently arranged around today’s travel geography.

Why this place matters

The monastery is associated with the Jiangxi Buddhist Institute for Nuns. Its setting offers a starting point for learning about women’s participation in Chinese Buddhist traditions.

Where it fits

Plan this as a Jiangxi extension around Fuzhou. It is not in the same locality as the Huangmei patriarch temples, so allow a separate transfer and suitable visiting time.

A thoughtful visit

Dress modestly, follow the temple’s visitor guidance and ask before photographing people or interiors. A cultural visit does not automatically include meditation sessions, teacher meetings or monastery accommodation; we discuss any such interests separately.
