Mohe offers a journey into the far north, with forest roads and river villages that feel quite different in summer and winter.

Beiji Village is a visitor base by the Heilongjiang River. Build the trip around the landscape and local life rather than a promise of seeing the aurora. Mohe is a substantial onward journey from Harbin.

Summer brings long days; winter brings severe cold and short daylight. Confirm current border-area access and suitable transport before travel.

Beiji Village & the northern setting

Beiji Village is one possible base for understanding life at China’s far northern edge. River views, seasonal routines and the surrounding forest matter more than collecting boundary markers. The area is extensive, so choose the village and excursion circuit before deciding accommodation.

River bends & forest scenery

Shenlong Bay and other selected river viewpoints offer landscape outings outside the village. Their access and suitability change with season and road conditions. A supported excursion should include time for stops, meals and a sensible return, not only a distance on a map.

Winter or summer are different journeys

Deep winter brings snow, severe cold and short days; summer brings long daylight and a greener landscape. Aurora sightings are exceptional and unpredictable; the northern landscape is the reason to make the journey. Choose the season for the experience you want rather than expecting every famous northern phenomenon at once.

Time well spent.

2–3 days · one northern base

Allow arrival time, a full local excursion and a relaxed departure. Select the river or village focus around actual logistics.

4 days · a broader circuit

Add another village or forest area only with a coherent road plan and weather flexibility.

At the local table

Warm northeastern meals and regular indoor breaks are central to a winter visit. Dietary choices and supplies should be discussed before remote excursions.

Choosing your base

Transfers around Mohe can be substantial. Plan suitable winter equipment and contingency time, and keep the programme within the conditions and the traveller’s comfort level.
