Allow separate time for the mountain and Sanzu Temple. The temple connects this landscape to Sengcan, traditionally remembered as the third Chinese Chan patriarch, while the mountain paths offer a different, physically active experience.

Spring and autumn often suit visits. Mountain weather and cableway operations affect the plan; allow a transfer between Anqing city and Qianshan.

Tianzhushan: granite & mountain paths

Tianzhushan, near Qianshan, is the principal mountain excursion in this destination. Granite peaks, wooded paths and changing views reward a route matched to mobility and weather. Cableways may reduce part of the ascent, but do not remove all climbing or make every section suitable for every traveller.

Sanzu Temple & Chan connections

Sanzu Temple adds a religious and historical counterpoint in the Qianshan area, associated with Sengcan in the traditional Chan lineage. A thoughtful visit distinguishes inherited religious narratives from firmly dated evidence. It works well on a separate, gentler portion of the stay.

Anqing’s river city

Anqing’s Yangtze setting and Zhenfeng Pagoda area provide an urban chapter distinct from the mountain. Huangmei opera offers another cultural connection when a suitable performance is available. The city and Tianzhushan should not be treated as a single compact walking destination.

Time well spent.

2 days · Qianshan focus

Base for Tianzhushan, allowing one dedicated mountain day and a gentler temple visit around arrival or departure.

3 days · add Anqing

Include a river-city day and, if available, a contextualised opera encounter. Keep transport between the city and mountain area explicit.

At the local table

A regional meal can introduce river-country and mountain-area cooking. Ask about seasonal ingredients and choose a modest selection before or after a walking day.

Choosing your base

Choose Qianshan for early mountain access or Anqing for the city chapter. Mountain weather can change quickly; keep a lower-level alternative and avoid tight departure connections.
