Mount Heng (Hunan)
Nanyue Hengshan in Hunan is the southern member of the Five Great Peaks. Its forested ridges hold both Buddhist temples and Daoist sites, while the Nanyue town below is part of the pilgrimage landscape.
Start with the Nanyue temple precinct and then choose a mountain route that suits the season and your walking pace. The sacred geography deserves time: this is not the northern Hengshan in Shanxi, despite the similar English name.
