Acupuncture & Moxibustion Traditions

Look beyond a technique to the knowledge behind it: materials, teaching and the cultural language of a tradition passed between generations.

Acupuncture and moxibustion of traditional Chinese medicine were inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2010. A cultural introduction can explore their objects and transmission without participating in a medical procedure. Heritage recognition concerns a tradition’s cultural importance; it does not establish the effectiveness of a treatment.

A closer encounter

  • Learn how acupuncture and moxibustion differ through historical objects and an educational explanation.
  • Explore moxa materials and the relationship between teaching, apprenticeship and formal learning.
  • Discuss a museum-based or appropriately supervised cultural introduction. Access to working clinics or patients is not assumed.

Beijing is one possible starting point for a cultural introduction. Any museum visit or educational demonstration is confirmed individually; clinical consultations and treatment follow a separate medical pathway.

Tell us what interests you. We’ll shape the experience around your journey and confirm the arrangements in your personal proposal.
